PERSONAL SURVIVAL TECHNIQUES REVALIDATION
Maritime Institute’s U.S. Coast Guard Approved Personal Survival Revalidation in STCW as amended 2010, Section A-VI/1, 46 CFR 11.302(d) and 46 CFR 12.602(d), as required every five years for mariners sailing under the STCW requirements, PROVIDED that the individual has [and submits to the U.S. Coast Guard] at least 360 DAYS OF QUALIFYING SEA SERVICE in the last 5 years on vessels that are REQUIRED to hold regular fire, emergency, and abandon ship drills, and has been previously certified per Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code.
This 1-day Revalidation course is a U.S. Coast Guard-approved course and therefore may not be accepted by foreign governments/employers. This course is directed towards U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential holders, who must refer to the following U.S. Coast Guard National Maritime Center requirements for renewal of Basic Training: https://www.dco.uscg.mil/Portals/9/NMC/pdfs/checklists/mcp_fm_nmc5_241_web.pdf
Sea service must be submitted to U.S. Coast Guard with application for renewal. Sea service on recreational vessels that are not subject to STCW must submit actual proof of drills.

If you are NOT a U.S. mariner credential holder, you must check with your foreign agency if they would accept this training certificate. For example, the United Kingdom MCA may or may not accept this 1-day Revalidation training. TRLMI advises that Non-U.S. mariners should instead renew their Basic Training through our 3-day Basic Training Refresher course which satisfies continued competency requirements for STCW Basic Training (not limited to Personal Survival Techniques and Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting).

This course may not be accepted by foreign agencies or foreign maritime employers . International mariners must check with their foreign agency if this specific 1-day training course would be accepted for renewal. If not, TRLMI advises renewing your Basic Training certification in our 3-day Basic Training Refresher course.
In this class you will be going into the swimming pool. You MUST BRING: an extra change of clothes, towel, and a bag to carry your belongings.Any applicant who has successfully completed your Personal Survival Techniques Revalidation (MARINS-791) course will satisfy The Personal Survival Techniques continued standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.302(d)(1) and 12.602(d)(1) for mariners who have previously held a Basic Training endorsement under STCW Code Section A-VI/1, PROVIDED that the mariner has at least 1 year of sea service within the last 5 years; STCW Code Section A-VI/1 and Table A-VI/1-1, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 08-14(Ch-1) Tasks 1.14.B, 1.14.D, 1.14.E, 1.14.F, 1.14.G. Applicants who have successfully completed your course need not present completed “Task Control Sheets” for these assessments in application for STCW certification.
