Basic Position Description:
Below you will find the qualifications for the position but please note that this is a team effort and a non profit we all wear many hats and share jobs that need to get done. We are team MSA.
Overseeing Waterfront Programs for a safe and smooth running operation.
Skippering the Double Portion, Ballena, and Chase boats for non-paying/paying customers and determined by licensing. You will need to get your 50 Ton License.
Evaluate and inventory all waterfront program materials and equipment. (Snorkel gear, wetsuits, kayaks, boats). Oversee repair damaged equipment.
Wetsuit shed stocked and ready
Setup and Check Boats, Kayaks, and Moorings.
Oversee safety on pier and dock regarding ferry and other MSA vessels.
Train staff on boat driving and boat safety.
Ensure weekly tear-down and setup of waterfront area with Flying Points team.
Basic vehicle and boat maintenance duties such as oil changes, tune ups etc.
Lead staff on various projects on occasion.
Assist Camp Manager as needed
Crew for ENHYDRA – be willing and prepared to perform any of the functions and tasks as defined under the roles of Crew Lead and/or Deckhand; in support of the prevailing Captain.
Be willing and prepared to execute essential emergency situations on ENHYDRA: Man Overboard; Fire, Abandon Ship; Collision
Lead monthly checks and maintenance on working systems on the vessel as prescribed by the prevailing Captain.
Aquarist – Care for and Collect animals for aquariums and touch tanks
Maintain Aquarium and Tank Systems
Be ready to work on weekends or at other locations as assigned
Attend all staff meetings
Ensure that campers meet our behavioral standards.
Assist Program Directors with other duties as assigned. This is a seasonal position.
Up to 40% of time may be assigned as work projects.
Qualifications:
Candidate must be at least 25 years old, should be a self starter with great organizational and leadership skills. Needs to work well with children and be a team player. Strong swimming ability with certifications in 1st aid, lifeguard and CPR. Open water Scuba trained (or willing to become certified).
He or she must have the ability to lift at least 65 pounds, have some boat driving experience and be willing to obtain a 50 ton captains license. We need someone with the ability to troubleshoot with some basic maintenance experience.
Starting Date: ASAP
Compensation: $1947 per month plus food an housing valued at $647 per month = $2594 per month.
Location: Catalina Island 65% Catalina Island 35% on board our 112” Floating Sea Camp. Staff accommodations are rustic cabins.
