The electrician’s assistant will work under the direction of the department supervisor, and will help the electricians with electric system installation, repair, and maintenance. Work is primarily outdoors on a pier and around various vessels.
· Assisting electricians with installing and maintaining electrical systems.
· Testing, and installing electrical motors, electromechanical devices, controls, contacts, switches, and other electrical equipment and components.
· Repairs, installs, replaces, and tests electrical circuits, cables, equipment, and connectors.
· Use of hand tools and testing equipment.
· Replacement of faulty switches, sockets, and other elements of electrical systems.
· Mounting motors, transformers, and lighting fixtures into position and completes circuits according to diagram specifications.
· Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
· Participate in special projects as required.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Knowledge of low voltage Single phase / three phase basic knowledge.
· Knowledge of marine DC electronics.
· Knowledge of motor controls.
· Knowledge of frequency drives.
· Must be able to speak and understand the English language.
· Take direction and complete routine tasks.
· Exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines.
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
PREFERRED
· DBIDS card.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· Must be able to lift 100 lbs. without restriction. Position involves lifting, pulling ad operating heavy equipment and objects.
· Agility to bend, stoop, or squat, and climb high steps/ladders frequently.
· Physical dexterity and strength to operate deck machinery; work on equipment that is poorly accessible or in confined workspaces.
· Must be able to keep balance/equilibrium while performing duties at various heights.
· Ability to work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time.
· Adequate hearing & vision ability.
· Proper heat/cold tolerance, working in all weather conditions.
· Comfortable working while exposed to grease, dirt, paint, water, etc.
· Must be able to swim.
· Work on a moving and uneven platform.
