The Marine Operations department of VIMS is seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to serve aboard the Research Vessel Virginia and join our team of esteemed professionals for a great opportunity to contribute to science and marine operations. The R/V Virginia averages 75 days a year underway in support of research; underway days qualify for overtime compensation in addition to the base salary. This position is eligible for a sign on bonus for a successful external candidate.

EDUCATION /LICENSE /CERTIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid Driver’s License required.
Certified in First Aid/CPR.
Designated Duty Engineer – 4000HP license issued by the United States Coast Guard (USCG).
Valid Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) credential.
Valid STCW credential appropriate for vessel tonnage.
Documented history serving as Chief Engineer.
Substantive experience with all aspects of marine engineering including the maintenance and repair of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, MSD systems, reverse osmosis systems, ship-board electrical systems and refrigeration.
Experience leading small groups.
