The US Coast Guard is accepting sea service toward Advanced Firefighting, Proficiency in Survival Craft and Basic Training for vessels that are operating in Reduced Operating Status (ROS) and holding regular drills.
Today the U.S. Coast Guard National Maritime Center announced that they will accept service in any capacity aboard a vessel that is required to hold regular fire and emergency drills, as being relevant to the qualification of Advanced Firefighting, Basic Training and Proficiency in Survival Craft.
Service on vessels in reduced operating status (ROS) will be accepted, on a day per day basis, as these vessels are required to hold drills under 46 CFR Subchapter W.
What does this mean for me?
Having 360 days of crediting sea time can mean the difference between taking a one-day revalidation class vs. a three-day refresher course to renew these certifications.
