Welding Assessments

To satisfy the requirements of Enclosure (2) to NVIC 17-14. Successful completion of these Assessment Guidelines will provide satisfactory evidence of meeting the standard of competence specified in Section A-III/1 of the STCW Code. To satisfy Task No. 8.1.B the student plans and successfully completes:
 
1. Prepares required pieces of metal prior to welding;
2. Selects the proper machine settings and electrode for the size and material to be joined; and
3. Performs a post-weld examination and/or test.

Assessments do not include training for the assessment.  One day of assessments does not guarantee assessments will be signed off.  If in doubt about ability to conduct complete assessment to the satisfaction of approved assessor, recommend enroll in an appropriate course of instruction.
