We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our sea-going team as a Qualified Member of Engine Department (QMED). In this essential role, you will play a vital part in the efficient and safe operation of our ship’s engine department. As a watch-stander, you will be responsible for maintaining and ensuring the proper functioning of various engine room equipment and systems
Responsibilities
Engine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, lubrication, and repair tasks on engines, pumps, compressors, and other machinery as required to keep them in optimal working condition, as directed.
Watch-Standing: Actively stand watch and maintain a vigilant presence in the engine room, monitoring equipment and systems to detect any anomalies or issues. Report and respond to emergencies promptly.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to all USMMI safety management system procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and the crew. Participate in safety drills and training.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with other members of the engine department and the vessel’s crew to coordinate maintenance and repair activities. Assist with general vessel operations when required.
Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to emergencies, including fires, leaks, and other critical situations. Operate firefighting and safety equipment as needed.
Environmental Stewardship: Ensure compliance with USCG environmental regulations and contribute to efforts to minimize the vessel’s environmental footprint.
Qualifications
Valid Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with a Qualified Member of Engine Department (QMED) endorsement.
STCW Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch (RFPEW)
Engine room experience on sea-going vessels.
Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and mechanical systems.
Ability to work effectively in a team and follow orders from superiors.
Physical fitness and the ability to work in demanding, physically challenging conditions.
Willingness to work on a rotational schedule.
