Leah Loyer

Leah Loyer is the Credential Services Consultant at TRLMI. She has been spearheading this service since its launch and refining her knowledge of the US Coast Guards credential requirements since joining the team in 2016.  Leah built her maritime foundation at the Maritime Institute and has continued to expand her knowledge and commitment to mariners and the school.  Prior to focusing on Credentials Services, Leah worked in Student Services welcoming students, helping with course enrollments, proctoring exams, and navigating the paperwork side of sea time and credential submissions.

Leah was born and spent her childhood in Michigan, until her family relocated to Idaho where she graduated high school.  Leah enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and trained as an Engineman, where she specialized in small boat engine repair and maintenance of Detroit Diesel engines and Outboard Motors. While in the Navy, she was stationed at Naval Air Station Pensacola, and Naval Air Station San Diego Port Operations.  She completed her enlistment as a Petty Officer 2nd Class Engineman.

After the Navy, Leah stayed in San Diego and pursued a career in administration and customer service in the property management, commercial real estate, and the non-profit worlds.  She later relocated and attended the University of Montana, in Missoula where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. Leah returned to California and became the Executive Assistant to the CEO of Turtle Bay Exploration Park, in Redding, a 300-acre trail system, arboretum, animal habitat and museum complex.  Many years later, she found her way back to San Diego, and discovered her niche of working in the specialized and rewarding maritime industry.

When asked what her favorite duties at TRLMI are, she said, “The best part of what I do is working with the students, making them feel welcome and comfortable, and helping them through the process of pursuing their maritime career goals.”
