Tracy Burke joined the Maritime Institute as an instructor in the engineering department in 2023. He holds an unlimited horsepower USCG Chief Engineer License for steam, motor and gas turbine engines. He sailed on the Great Lakes for the Interlake Steamship Company for 20 years before shifting to deep sea as an engineer on container vessels. Tracy retired in 2021 after serving two terms as Norfolk Branch Agent/Government Fleet Representative for the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association (MEBA). Graduating with honors in the Maine Maritime Academy class of 1988, Tracy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Maritime Engineering Operations. When he is not at work, you will find him traveling, foraging for wild foods, gardening and tending his honeybee hives. He has been a beekeeper for over 30 years.
