PERSONAL SURVIVAL TECHNIQUES (PST)
A trainee successfully completing this course will be able to react in a correct manner during emergency situations, take measures appropriate to their own survival and the survival of others, and use survival equipment correctly.
The trainee will also acquire knowledge which in some instances will enable them to identify and correct defects and thereby prevent emergencies. This includes proper donning of a United States Coast Guard (USCG)-approved lifejacket and immersion suit; properly jumping into the water from a height while wearing a USCG-approved lifejacket; properly jumping into the water from a height while wearing a USCG-approved immersion suit; swimming while wearing a USCG-approved lifejacket and righting an inverted USCG-approved liferaft; keeping afloat in water without the aid of a lifejacket or an immersion suit; and jumping into the liferaft from a height while wearing a Personal Floatation Device (PFD) and boarding a liferaft without assistance.
San Diego sessions run from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Day 1
and 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Day 2
This module is also offered as part of our week-long Basic Training STCW Course.
NOTE: Swimming is a prerequisite for this class. Appropriate swim wear (i.e. shorts with liner — no basketball shorts; one-piece bathing suit for women), towel, bag for wet clothes, and a change of clothes.
