You have up to 8 weeks to complete the online course starting on the date that Maritime Institute Student Services sends you your course log-in email. THERE ARE NO EXTENSIONS past this 8-week time frame.
Final exams for this online course are proctored IN-PERSON. When you are finished with the online Able Seaman course you will schedule with us to take your proctored USCG Approved final exams at one of our approved locations. Our online course final exam testing locations are currently only in: Alameda and San Diego, California; Norfolk, VA; Honolulu, Hawaii. Appointments are scheduled based on our exam proctor availability. Upon successful completion of the exams, you will receive a Certificate of Training for this course that is valid for one (1) year to be submitted to the USCG to apply for the national Able Seaman rating.
After registering, you will receive access to the Online Portal within 2-3 business days via email.
Any applicant who has successfully completed your Able Seaman (MARINS-1) within one year of application will satisfy: The examination and Marlinspike Seamanship demonstration requirements of 46 CFR 12.405 for any Able Seaman endorsement. This does not satisfy any sea service requirements.
