ASSISTANCE TOWING

Course Description
This four (4) hour U.S. Coast Guard Approved course satisfies the requirements of 46 CFR 11.482(b) to add an Assistance Towing endorsement to any national officer endorsement as Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV) or Mate or Master on vessels of less than 200 GRT. This endorsement is required if you will be engaged in towing a disabled vessel for payment.
Any U.S. Coast Guard deck officer license of 200 tons or less, including an OUPV, may be endorsed for Assistance Towing. This endorsement authorizes the holder to engage in commercial assistance towing within the scope of their license.

CLASSROOM COURSE- CALL TO SCHEDULE (IF NO DATES AVAILABLE BELOW)
ONLINE- ENROLL BELOW Four weeks to complete the course, 90 days to take the final exam.
Class Requirements
ONLINE COURSE format: After registering, you will receive access to our online portal within 3-5 business days via email. You have 4 Weeks to complete the online course, starting on the date that MI Student Services emails you the link to our online portal. THERE ARE NO EXTENSIONS. The materials for online are online; there are no printed course books or handouts. Final exams for ONLINE COURSES must be proctored IN-PERSON. Appointment only, USCG-Approved final exam are given at one of our approved locations in Alameda and San Diego, CA; Norfolk, VA; Honolulu, HI or Everett, WA. You have 90 days to take the exam. Upon successfully completing the exam, you will receive a Certificate of Training that is valid for one (1) year and must be submitted to the National Maritime Center.

Any applicant who has successfully completed your Assistance Towing (MARINS-42) course within one year of application will satisfy: The examination requirements of 46 CFR 11.482(b) to add an Assistance Towing endorsement to any national officer endorsement as: Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV); OR Master on vessels of less than 200 GRT; OR Mate on vessels of less than 200 GRT.
