In June of 2018 Training Resources Maritime Institute fell into new hands, and we would like to formally introduce Dave Abrams, our owner and CEO. Here are a few words from Cap’n Dave.
Since I am relatively new to the company, I thought I would share a little of my story. I grew up boating on the Long Island Sound and Chesapeake Bay. After 4 years of NROTC at the University of Rochester in New York, I was commissioned as an officer in the Navy and spent almost 6 years on active duty. My tours included USS Kidd (DDG-993), USNS Navasota (T-AO 106), and Atlantic Intelligence Command. After getting off active duty, I went back to the University of Southern California at night for my MBA, while working during the day learning the world of manufacturing. My first company made main reduction gears for the FFG-7 class of frigates, along with deep sea pipe laying and cable laying equipment. I found my niche in fixing businesses that had problems, and over the next 25 years worked in 7 different industries, running and fixing companies. I had always wanted to find a business in the maritime world, so after a short retirement lead me to get my 100 Ton license at the Maritime Institute, I found my true calling. I acquired both Training Resources Limited and Maritime Institute to combine Southern California’s top schools for maritime education and put them under one roof.
I am really proud of the staff and instructors we have at TRLMI. It’s a great learning environment, and we have a fantastic team of people who really care about what they do. I’m still learning this business, so if you have suggestions about what we can do to improve our services, please let me know.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you. Wishing you all fair winds and be safe out there.
Dave
