POSITION SUMMARY:
The Able-Bodied Seaman is responsible for the safe completion of all deck maintenance and cleaning, as well as
overseeing the departure and arrival of the vessel. This position is also a team leader in emergency response
situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Serve as on-deck team leader
• Identify required maintenance for exterior areas of the vessel
• Identify required daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning responsibilities
• Manage potable water intake (responsibility of the engineering staff onboard the AE)
• Manage trash disposal and removal from the vessel
• Comply with safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures
• Responsible for the general appearance of the exterior of the vessel
• Respond to all General Alarms and emergency situations per station billet
• Make hospitality standards an important part of day-to-day duties
• Participate and ensure participation of all USCG mandated drills and emergency procedures as
directed
• Actively participates in embarking duties such as loading, unloading, luggage carrying, etc., as
needed
• Performs other duties if required since above stated describe only a regular working day and
may not be inclusive of every task needed to achieve results
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• HS Diploma or Equivalent Required
Professional Certification(s) or License:
• Valid Merchant Marine Credential (MMC) – Able Bodied Seaman Special (minimum
requirement)
• Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) –ability to obtain and maintain
• Valid Driver’s License
• Copy of DD214, if Veteran status
Skills & Abilities:
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills; must be fluent in English
• Ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a pleasant and professional manner
Experience:
• At least five years of experience in a position with similar duties and responsibilities
• Cruise industry experience preferred
Other:
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to
pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident/incident testing.
