Primary Purpose:  Oversees marine asset maintenance and repair, ensuring all engineering work meets safety standards and marine regulations.  Determines priorities and clear action plan to deliver and ensure the fleet is operated, repaired and maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements, best practices, company standards and customer expectations.

Must be willing to relocate to Guam.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Ensures that all vessels exceed the minimum standards for the USCG and all Federal, State, and local safety standards.
• Evaluates operation of marine equipment.Maintain a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all equipment.
• Maintains and coordinates repair of marine machinery and equipment for installation on vessels.
• Inspects marine equipment and machinery in order to draw up work requests and job specifications.
  Reviews work requests, and compare them with previous work completed on Vessels in order to ensure that costs are economically sound.
• Prepares technical reports for use by engineering, marine operations, and upper management. Procures materials needed to repair marine equipment and machinery.
• Acts as liaisons between vessels’ Captains and Engineers in order to ensure that schedules and budgets are maintained, and that vessels are operated safely and efficiently.
• Checks, tests, and maintains automatic controls and alarm systems.
• Maintains accurate records of engineering department activities, including expense records and details of equipment maintenance and repairs.
• Schedules machine overhauls and the servicing of electrical, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, water, and sewage systems.
• Supervises other engineers, maintenance personnel and crewmembers, and trains them for routine and emergency duties.
• Maintains all equipment to manufacturer’s specifications.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services .* Mechanical -* Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Mathematics – Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. Physics – Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, atomic and sub- atomic structures and processes. Design – Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Critical Thinking – Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Deductive Reasoning – The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED required.
• A minimum of 5-years sailing experience in engineering capacity and equivalent experience in Port Engineering or Engineering Management shore side
• Strong background interfacing with USCG and Class personnel and requirements Must understand all Federal, State, and local safety standards.
• Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
• Ability to work and manage in a multi-cultural workforce.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
• Solutions oriented and ability to multi-task managing priorities.
• Ability to work with a multicultural workforce
• Proven team-player, strong communication skills, self-motivator, high mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to travel as necessary to domestic and foreign locations
• Has knowledge and understanding to create solution for an aged fleet requiring OEM parts that are not readily supported by OEM’s due to age of asset.
• Ability to develop repair work packages and interface and manage shipyard production during a drydocking cycle .
• Must understand vessel drawings and blueprints.
• Must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night as may be required in order to maintain continuous operations.
• Must be able to obtain a TWIC Card
• Must be able to obtain access on U. S. Naval Base

Preferred Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree (strongly prefer Maritime Academy graduate)
• Licenses/Certifications: DDE 4000 or higher license
• Traits: Mechanical technician capacity, involvement in trade associations
• Strong understanding of Sub chapter M requirements and execution thereof.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work is performed approximately twenty-five percent of the time in an office setting. Approximately seventy-five percent of the time will be required to visit and/or ride vessels or the industrial sites. Work involves surveys of shipboard equipment and systems and shipboard working conditions as well as shipboard assessments of industrial and ship’s force work progress. Must be able to climb vertical ladders and work from elevated work surfaces, embark and disembark marine vessels, enter confined spaces, exposure to high temperature and/or high noise-level areas. Must be sufficiently computer literate with demonstrable ability to use word processing, electronic spreadsheets, presentation graphics, e-mail, and other software products routinely used by type desk and maintenance management personnel in the performance of their duties. Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
