The California Department of Fish and Wildlife currently has a Mate position open on our Research Vessel (R/V) Garibaldi. The Mate operates the vessel, helps with maintenance, and other on water duties.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least three years experience on

a government, professional, or commercial fishing vessel greater than 30’ in length.

Pay and Benefits

• Starting salary is $5,161.00/month

Expected Job Duties

• Operate the R/V Garibaldi

between Point Conception and the US/MEX border including trips to the Channel Islands.

• R/V Garibaldi is primarily used as a dive

platform for CDFW Environmental Scientists

conducting scuba surveys. Occasionally we perform trawls and drone deployment for fisheries research.

• Work Monday to Friday and very rarely on weekends.

• The vessel is home ported in San Pedro

• Paid travel throughout California is required.
