Overview
Perform routine maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting on electrical and electronic equipment as directed by the Senior Port Mechanic. Assist Port Mechanics on other duties when not concentrating on electrical repairs.
Responsibilities
Routine inspections and maintenance on electrical and electronic equipment on a fleet of tugs and barges.
Other repair and maintenance work on vessels as required.
Perform mechanical skills including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, megger testing and general troubleshooting of electrical and electronic equipment.
Installation of new equipment as directed.
Certification surveys and inspections as required.
Follow maintenance procedures according to manufacturer’s technical manuals.
Qualifications
5 years in the maritime industry as a Marine Electrician.
GMDSS qualified is a plus.
Familiarity with switchboards, power generations, PLC’s and controls, navigation electronic equipment.
Valid State driver’s license with clean record.
Valid TWIC.
Ability to work on vessels either dockside or underway.
Comfortable in tight spaces, may occasionally need to crawl into tanks and other enclosed spaces to repair equipment.
Knowledge of basic and specialty tools.
Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions.
Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs in port in all weather conditions.
Required to travel to Canada as needed for vessel repairs.
