Serco Inc. is looking for a highly motivated individual with a technical/engineering background as an Able Seafarer – Engine Department (ASE) who has experience working with Unmanned Experimental Systems (UXV) to join our Maritime Engineering, Technology and Sustainment (METS) team supporting Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Port Hueneme. This position supports a broad portfolio of Autonomous Maritime System (AMS) programs in the Ventura County Naval Base Port Hueneme geographic region onboard a fast-growing local team.
This position is contingent upon your ability to maintain your Secret level DoD Clearance.
The ASE provides support in operating, troubleshooting, and repairing shipboard systems, including shipboard main propulsion, electrical power generation and distribution, and auxiliary systems. Troubleshoots problems within project/program, providing analysis and solution recommendations. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Reports to head of a unit/department under limited to no supervision. This position will be onsite in Port Hueneme, CA.
In this role, you will:
Will perform scheduled and corrective maintenance, integration, testing, field installation, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment and systems.
Provide sound and seasoned technical judgement that follows company policies and procedures in meeting customer obligations.
Conduct routine and corrective maintenance of complex automated control systems, main engines, diesel generators, electrical distribution systems, and auxiliary systems.
Assist with vessel modifications, including development of Engineering Change Proposals, procurement of parts, fabrication, installation, and testing.
Assist with planning shipyard overhauls.
Assist with electrical, mechanical and network payload integration.
Develop maintenance plans and procedures.
Assist with at-sea UXVsing of UXVs and associated payload, including test plan development, test execution, and post-test analysis.
Ability to problem solve during high stress environments such as field testing in austere conditions.
Travel and at-sea watch standing will be required.
Qualifications
To be successful in the role, you will need:
High School Diploma with 3+ years’ seagoing experience associated with a Vessel Engineering Department, which includes training and experience associated with engine room functions, and involves the performance of duties
carried out under the supervision of an engineer officer or a qualified STCW rating.
USCG QMED Certification is required.
Experience troubleshooting to the component level is highly desired.
An active Secret Level DoD clearance is required to be considered.
A current valid U.S. passport is required.
Experience in maritime operations to include unmanned surface vessels, and unmanned underwater vehicles is preferred.
Able to interpret mechanical and hydraulic schematics and drawings.
Proficient in the use of common hand and power-driven tools.
Good communication skills and the ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
Able to work with minimum supervision under a variety of conditions.
Minimum 25% travel CONUS/OCONUS
