The Chief Vessel Engineer (C/E) leads the vessel engineering department, and is overall in charge of engine room safety, machinery operation, maintenance, bunkering, and technical administration. He provides support in inspecting, operating, troubleshooting, maintianing, and repairing major power generation systems, to include shipboard main propulsion, electrical power generation and distribution, and auxiliary systems. Furthermore he troubleshoots problems within project/program, providing analysis and solution recommendations. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Reports to the Program Manager (under supervision of the Vessel Captain when underway). This position will support onsite Naval Base Port Hueneme.
This position is contingent upon your ability to maintain your Secret level DoD Clearance.
In this role, you will:
Will perform scheduled and corrective maintenance, integration, testing, field installation, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment and systems.
Provide sound and seasoned technical judgement that follows company policies and procedures in meeting customer obligations.
Conduct routine and corrective maintenance of complex automated control systems, main engines, diesel generators, electrical distribution systems, and auxiliary systems.
Assist with vessel modifications, including development of Engineering Change Proposals, procurement of parts, fabrication, installation, and testing.
Assist with planning shipyard overhauls.
Assist with electrical, mechanical and network payload integration.
Develop maintenance plans and procedures.
Assist with at-sea testing of UXVs and associated payload, including test plan development, test execution, and post-test analysis.
Ability to problem solve during high stress environments such as field testing in austere conditions.
Travel and at-sea watch standing will be required.
Qualifications
To be successful in the role, you will need:
Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Engineering/Technical-related discipline or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, or work/military experience with 5+ years’ experience of seagoing service in the engine department on seagoing vessels powered by main propulsion machinery of not less than 750kW/1,000HP, of which not less than 360 days must be served while qualified as Second Engineer Officer (1st A/E) meeting the requirements for certification as OICEW, or as a qualified Second Engineer Officer (1st A/E) on vessels powered by main propulsion machinery of 3,000 kW/4,000 HP or more provided the certificate is so endorsed.
Must be able to obtain the USCG STCW Chief Engineer License for 750 kW/1,000 HP or more post-employment
An active Secret level DoD Clearance and a current valid U.S. passport is required to be considered.
Experience in maritime operations to include unmanned surface vessels, and unmanned underwater vehicles.
Experience troubleshooting to the component level is highly desired.
Able to interpret mechanical and hydraulic schematics and drawings.
Proficient in the use of common hand and power-driven tools.
Good communication skills and the ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
Able to work with minimum supervision under a variety of conditions.
Minimum 25% travel CONUS/OCONUS
