Grant Warren joined the Maritime Institute in May 2025 after retiring from the U.S. Navy with 25 years of distinguished service. During his naval career as a Damage Control Master Chief, Grant developed extensive expertise in shipboard survivability, propulsion engineering, and emergency response.
Grant served at sea aboard USS Emory S. Land (AS 39), USS Tarawa (LHA 1), USS Halsey (DDG 97), USS Cape St. George (CG 71), and USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26). Ashore assignments included Afloat Training Group (ATG) San Diego and the Naval Leadership and Ethics Command San Diego. While assigned to USS John P. Murtha, Grant served as Top Snipe and earned three Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW) letters during other sea tours.
Grant graduated top of class from both Damage Control “A” School and the Senior Enlisted Propulsion Engineering Course (SEPEC). Additional advanced training includes the Navy Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense (CBRN D) course and the Senior Enlisted Damage Control Assistant course. Professional qualifications earned during service include Master Training Specialist and Afloat Training Specialist.
Grant holds an Associate’s degree in Fire Science and brings a passion for instruction to the classroom. At the Maritime Institute, Grant teaches Basic and Advanced Firefighting, Government Vessel Damage Control, and delivers customized Damage Control training to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) fleet.
Grant resides in Chula Vista, California, with his two sons, Trent and Gavin. Outside of work, Grant volunteers with the City of Chula Vista Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and serves as a Scoutmaster with Scouting America for a local troop. When not teaching, Grant enjoys spending time outdoors with family—hiking, camping, and fishing—and sharing a lifelong appreciation for service and the outdoors.
