Kevin Hopkins, DC1, USN (Ret) joined Maritime Institute in 2021 as a fire fighting instructor. He brings over 20 years of military operational and training experience to the company. Kevin served for 20 years as a Damage Controlman concluding his career in 2016. He has over 14 years of sea duty, serving onboard numerous classes of Naval vessels including the USS Jake Laboon (DDG-58), USS Germantown (LSD-42), USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76), the USS Ross (DDG-71) and the USS Mesa Verde (LPD-19).
Prior to joining Maritime Institute, Kevin was a staff member at Peninsula Catholic Highschool in Newport News, Virginia. While there Kevin was overall in charge of the before and after school study hall program. He was also a member of the transportation department.
Kevin Hopkins earned his associates degree in Supervision in Management from Coastline Community College, undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts from Excelsior College and his MBA in Sports Management from American Military University. Kevin is from Philadelphia, PA and has been happily married to Day ‘Nel for 8 years. Kevin and Day ‘Nel have 6 adult children. Four girls and two boys. In his free time Kevin is the head men’s varsity basketball coach at Denbigh Baptist Christian School in Newport News Virginia.
