Tam McKinney joined Maritime Institute in 2024 as the VP of HR. A career professional, she has spent more than 20 years in the field in both private sector and government. Tam holds a BA in Human Resources Management and an MA in Organizational Management. She is also a member of the Society for Human Resources Management in which she holds a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) designation. In addition to this, she has also facilitated multiple training sessions on various HR topics. Tam loves every aspect of HR but is most passionate about the “human” element and Employee Relations. So much so, that she was one of 4 people nominated for a Best of Employee Relations Award for all of Hampton Roads HR professionals.

 

Tam was born and raised in Portsmouth, Virginia and has resided in the local Hampton Roads area most of her life. She is the wife of a Navy and Army (dual service) veteran and the mother of 3 children, Lauren, Amber, and Jeremiah. In her free time, she enjoys family vacations, being a sports mom, and relaxing days at home with her family.
