PROFICIENCY IN SURVIVAL CRAFT (PSC)

This training course is designed to comply with the International Maritime Organization and United States Coast Guard (USCG) training course requirements for certification as “Lifeboatman Proficient In Survival Craft and Rescue Boats”, as delineated in the International Convention of Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping, the Seafarer’s Training, Certification and Watchkeeping Code, the United States Code of Federal Regulations, and applicable USCG National Maritime Center Policy. NVIC 01-24.

 

 

To add PSC to your credential, you must complete Basic Training or have a Basic Training endorsement on your MMC.

Students taking this course should bring the following clothing for the practical lifeboat launching assessments: Dress in layers / bring a lightweight jacket, long sleeved shirt, long pants and closed toed shoes.  Sandals and Crocks are not authorized and students will be prohibited from taking lifeboat assessments.   Maritime Institute will provide the use of a work vest and hardhat. 
 
To have PSC added to your credential you must complete or hold a current Basic Training Endorsement.
Any applicant who has successfully completed your Proficiency in Survival Craft (MARINS-372) course will satisfy: The training, practical demonstration, and written examination requirements of 46 CFR 12.407(b)(3) for endorsement as Lifeboat Operator, PROVIDED that this training was completed within one year of the date of application; AND The Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Other Than Fast Rescue Boats (PSC) training requirements of 46 CFR 11.309(a)(4)(v), 11.319(a)(4)(v), 11.321(a)(3)(iii), 11.329(a)(4)(iii), and 11.335(a)(3)(iii); AND The Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats Other Than Fast Rescue Boats (PSC) standards of competence required by 46 CFR 12.613; STCW Code Section A-VI/2 and Table A-VI/2-1, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 01-24 Tasks 1.1.A, 1.2.A, 1.3.A, 1.3.B, 1.3.C, 1.3.D, 1.4.A, 1.4.C, 1.5.A,1.6.A, 1.8.A, 1.9.A, 2.1.A, 3.1.A, 3.1.B, 3.2.A, 3.3.A, 3.4.A, 3.5.A, 3.5.B, 3.6.A, 3.7.A, 3.8.A, 4.1.A, 4.1.B, and 4.2.A. Applicants who have successfully completed your course need not present completed “Task Control Sheets” for these assessments in application for STCW certification. The sea service requirements of 46 CFR 12.407(b)(2) for endorsement as Lifeboat Operator must be met and are not part of this approval.
