Course Description

As of 1/9/24 no longer offering Able Seaman/Able Seafarer-Deck course
 
Our eight-day combined Able Seaman & Able Seafarer Deck Course allows mariners to complete the USCG Approved examinations for a National Able Seaman rating and the STCW Able Seafarer Deck endorsement, through taking one course. Only mariners who are qualified as RFPNW or hold the RFPNW endorsement AND have gained the required sea service for Able Seafarer Deck should take this course. (540 days sea service as RFPNW with ASD assessments, or, 360 days sea service as RFPNW with an approved ASD course)

This course consolidates training time from two separate one-week classes into eight days of training.

STCW Able Seafarer Deck:
YOU MUST MEET THE SEA TIME REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATION AS RFPNW**:
While qualified as an RFPNW, have seagoing service in the deck department of: 540 days, OR 360 days and complete approved Able Seafarer training.
**RFPNW sea service requirements: 180 days of seagoing service which includes training and experience associated with navigational watch-keeping functions, and performance of duties carried out under supervision of the master, mate, or qualified STCW deck rating per USCG requirements.

Please Note: The testing requirements for all levels of Able Seaman are the same. If you do not qualify for AB Unlimited initially, the mariner can receive an AB Special then later upgrade to AB Unlimited without any additional testing.

Any applicant who has successfully completed your Able Seaman/Able Seafarer - Deck (AB/AS-D)) (MARINS-1000) course will satisfy: National: If application is made within one year of completion, the examination and demonstration of ability requirements of 46 CFR 12.405(b),(c) and (d) for Able Seaman. This course does not satisfy the requirements of 46 CFR 12.401(c) or 12.405(a) for lifeboatman or lifeboatman-limited. STCW: The Able Seafarer – Deck standard of competence of 46 CFR 12.603(a)(4) (STCW Code Section A-II/5, Table A-II/5) including the following assessments from NVIC 14-14(Ch-5): 1.1.A, 1.2.A, 1.3.A, 2.1.A, 2.1.B, 2.2.A, 2.2.B, 2.2.C, 2.2.D, 2.3.A, 2.3.B, 2.4.A, 2.5.A, 3.1.A, 3.2.A, 4.1.A, 4.2.A, 4.3.A, 4.4.A, 4.4.B, 4.4.C, 4.4.D, 4.5.A, 4.6.A, 4.6.B, 4.6.C, 4.7.A, 4.8.A, 4.8.B, 4.8.C, 4.9.A, 4.10.A, 4.11.A, 4.12.A, 4.13.A, 5.1.A, 5.2.A, 5.3.A, 5.3.B, 5.3.C, 5.4.A, 5.5.A, 5.5.B, 5.5.C, 5.5.D, 5.5.E, 5.6.A, 5.6.B, 5.6.C, 5.7.A, 5.8.A, 5.9.A, 5.10.A, 5.10.B, 6.1.A, 6.1.B, 6.2.A, 6.3.A. 8.1.A, 8.2.A, 8.3.A, 8.3.B, 8.4.A, 8.4.B, 8.5.A, and 8.6.A. Applicants for this endorsement must provide evidence of 12 months of qualifying sea service as a RFPNW and are not required to present completed Task Control Sheets.
