QMED - Electrician / Refrigerating Engineer provides classroom presentations, hands-on practical demonstration, and shipboard training evolutions, candidates will demonstrate the practical skills needed for an endorsement as a QMED Electrician/Refrigeration.
This course provides mariners the experience and training in engine room operation, involving electrical and refrigeration systems including generator and distribution systems, and preparing, starting, paralleling, and changing over generators including:
Operation of electric motors including proper starting and stopping procedures.
High voltage installations.
Shipping container refrigeration operation and maintenance. THE ASSESSMENTS FOR THIS COURSE ARE IN ACCORDANCE WITH STANDARDS OF TRAINING CERTIFICATION AND WATCHKEEPING TABLES- A-III/1, FOR COMPETENCE IN KNOWLEDGE OF THE FOLLOWING:
Table A-III/1 Specification of minimum standard of competence for officers in charge of an engineering watch in a manned engine-room or designated duty engineers in a periodically unmanned engine-room. Electronic Equipment:

Non-programable, non-scientific function calculator or one may be provided for the examination.Any applicant who has successfully completed your QMED – Electrician/Refrigerating Engineer (MARINS-801) course within one year of application will satisfy: The examination requirements of 46 CFR 12.501(c)(5) for a national rating endorsement as QMED – Electrician/Refrigerating Engineer. A course certificate may be used for one application which results in the issuance of an endorsement and may not be used for any application transactions thereafter.
