BRIDGE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (BRM)

The objective of this course is to instruct the mariner in the areas relevant to Bridge Resource Management and application of leadership and team working skills. The course is designed to assist professional mariners in gaining knowledge of BRM principles and proficiency through the practical application of those principles. Discussion will be facilitated to promote effective use of all available resources that will enhance navigation safety. Emphasis is on the BRM behaviors necessary to achieve effective teamwork and how to minimize accidents caused by human error. Maritime Institute’s Full-Mission Bridge Simulator is used extensively to apply techniques and behavior learned in the classroom.

Any applicant who has successfully completed your Bridge Resource Management (MARINS-75) course will satisfy: The Bridge Resource Management training requirements of 46 CFR 11.309(a)(4)(vii) for an STCW endorsement as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (OICNW) for vessels of 500 GT (ITC) or more (Operational Level); AND the Bridge Resource Management training requirements of 46 CFR 11.319(a)(4)(vii) for an STCW endorsement as OICNW of vessels of less than 500 GT (ITC) (Operational Level); AND the Bridge Resource Management training requirements of 46 CFR 11.321(a)(3)(iv) for an STCW endorsement as OICNW of vessels of less than 500 GT (ITC) limited to near-coastal waters (Operational Level); AND the Leadership and Teamworking Skills standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.309(c)(1) and 11.319(b)(1); STCW Code Section A-II/1 and Table A-II/1, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 12-14(Ch-5) and 02-18(Ch-3) Tasks 18.1.A, 18.2.A, and 18.3.A. Applicants who have successfully completed your course need not present completed “Task Control Sheets” for these assessments in application for STCW certification.
