ELECTRICAL MOTOR CONTROLLER TROUBLESHOOTING AND DIAGNOSTIC
ELECTRICAL MOTOR CONTROLLER TROUBLESHOOTING AND DIAGNOSTIC
Maritime Institute state of the art two week “Electrical Motor Controller Troubleshooting and Diagnostic” course has been developed for the engineer or mariner with an Electrician credential or who has taken the Basic Electrician course at MI-East. It is perfect for that second electrician or third engineer, with electrical knowledge, who is not familiar with motor controller fundamentals and meter troubleshooting. The student will learn motor control ladder logic diagrams, relays, switches, contactors, and overloads. Interpretation of Circuit symbols, troubleshooting procedures, Digital and Analog Multimeters, the clamp on ammeter and insulation tester. A review of electrical safety, resistors, inductors, capacitor, and semiconductors will be given as well as current flow, voltage, continuity, AC and DC., Ohm’s Law, grounds, shorts circuits, series and parallel circuits. The student will have six state of the art motor controllers located in our new Electrical Lab to practice troubleshooting on and applying fixes to circuit faults found. Starting with a basic across the line motor starter working through more difficult controllers such as reversing starter, winch controller with remote operation,...

The student will have six state of the art motor controllers located in our new Electrical Lab to practice troubleshooting on and applying fixes to circuit faults found. Starting with a basic across the line motor starter working through more difficult controllers such as reversing starter, winch controller with remote operation, Pressure switch controller, including one motor controller with no wire labeling that they’ll have to “Ohm out” to trace it. Through the use of a Digital Mulimeter (DMM) there will be a motor wire identification lab that will teach the student how to identify motor winding leads that may not be labeled after coming back from repair. The two week Electrical Motor Controller Troubleshooting and Diagnostic course will leave the student with the skills and confidence necessary to come on board the vessel as an asset ready to perform his/her duties in troubleshooting motor controller faults.
