Course Description

The is intended for active duty USCG personnel only. It is equivalent to the examination module used by the NMC to evaluate applicants for original issue third mate, oceans, and is acceptable for use in training and evaluating USCG Deck Watch Officer personnel. This is not approved for qualifying an applicant for a merchant mariner endorsement.

Training Certificate of Completion

Any applicant who has successfully completed your Rules of the Road (USCG Deck Watch Officer) (MARINS-438) course with a passing score of at least 90% within one year of application will satisfy: The Rules of the Road examination requirements for renewal of any deck credential up to Master 200 GRT, Master or Mate of Fishing Vessels, or Apprentice Mate (Steersman); AND The Rules of the Road: International and Inland examination requirement to remove a geographic COLREGS limitation from a deck officer endorsement up to Master 200 GRT. A course certificate may be used for one application which results in the issuance of an endorsement and may not be used for any application transactions thereafter.
