QMED - PUMPMAN/MACHINIST

Intro
Any applicant who has successfully completed your QMED – Pumpman/Machinist (MARINS-802) course within one year of application will satisfy: The examination requirements of 46 CFR 12.501(c)(5) for a national rating endorsement as QMED-Pumpman/Machinist; AND The course requirements of 46 CFR 13.401(e)(1) for original issuance of Tankerman-Assistant (DL); AND The standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.329(a)(3); Section A-III/1 of the STCW Code, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 17-14(Ch-5) Tasks 8.1.A, 8.1.B, 8.1.C, and 8.2.A for OICEW on vessels powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 kW/1,000 HP propulsion power or more; AND The standards of competence required by 46 CFR 13.609(a)(2) for an STCW endorsement for Basic Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations; AND The standards of competence required by STCW Code Section A-V/1, Table A-V/1-1-1, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 22-14(Ch-2) for Basic Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations. A course certificate may be used for one application which results in the issuance of an endorsement and may not be used for any application transactions thereafter.
Course Description
TO APPLY FOR THE ENDORSEMENT ON YOUR MMC, THE CERTIFICATE(S) OF COMPLETION FROM THIS COURSE MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE USCG WITHIN ONE YEAR OF THE COURSE COMPLETION DATE.
Mariners will demonstrate sufficient knowledge, skill, and understanding for maintaining, repairing, and operating:
Deck machinery
Material handling equipment
Underway replenishment (UNREP) machinery
Proficient in the use of machine shop equipment:
Lathes
Milling machines
Drill presses
Arbor presses, etc.
Proficient in the use of various hand tools:
Handheld power tools
Burning, brazing systems
OXY-Acetylene cutting and brazing systems
Stick welding
Wire welding
Mig welding
Flex core welding
Class Requirements
180 days of sea service in a rating at least equal to that of a wiper or coal passer, is required for a QMED Pumpman/Machinist endorsement.
