Competence: Provide medical care to the sick and injured while they remain on board. Knowledge, understanding, and proficiency. Aspects of nursing, Diseases, Alcohol and drug abuse, Disease prevention, keeping records and copies of applicable regulations,
Class Requirements
Entry standards
The course is open to seafarers to be designated to be in charge of medical care on board ships. Those entering the course should have successfully completed training in medical first aid on board ship, such as specified in approved an IMO Model Course 1.14 Medical First Aid also know as Medical Care Provider course within 6 months of starting the PIC course.
Prerequisite is Medical Care Provider (MARINS 310)

Training Certificate of Completion
Any applicant who has successfully completed your Medical Care Person in Charge (MARINS-307) course will satisfy: The Person in Charge of Medical Care training and standards of competence required by 46 CFR 12.621 for an STCW endorsement as Person in Charge of Medical Care; STCW Code Section A-VI/4 and Table A-VI/4-2, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 02-04; AND The Management of Medical Care training requirements of 46 CFR 11.305(a)(3)(ix), 11.307(a)(3)(ix), 11.311(a)(3)(vi), 11.313(a)(3)(vi), and 11.315(a)(3)(ii); AND The Management of Medical Care standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.305(a)(2), 11.307(a)(2), 11.311(a)(2), 11.313(a)(2), and 11.315(a)(2); STCW Code A-II/2 and Table A-II/2, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVICs 10 14(Ch-4), 11-14(Ch-4) and 03-18(Ch-2) Tasks 19.1, 19.2, and 19.3. Applicants who have successfully completed your course need not present completed “Task Control Sheets” for these assessments in application for STCW certification.
