ENGINE ROOM RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (ERM)

The objective of this course is to instruct the mariner in the areas relevant to Engine Resource Management and application of leadership and teamworking skills. The course is intended for engineering officers at both the management and operational level and is designed to assist professional mariners in gaining knowledge of ERM principles and proficiency through the practical application of those principles. Discussion will be facilitated to promote effective use of all available resources that will enhance engine room safety.
 
Participants in this course will be able to identify engine room assignments and how individual roles contribute to safe and effective ship operation; the importance of managing tasks and workloads; the impact of modern day technology and industry advancement on the role of engine room personnel; and how to best prepare for an engine room emergency.
 
Mariners successfully completing Maritime Institute's Engine Resource Management (ERM) course, will satisfy the Engine Resource Management requirements of 46 CFR 11.325(a)(3)(i) and (b)(1); 46 CFR 11.327(a)(3)(i) and (b)(1); 46 CFR 11.329(a)(4)(iv); 46 CFR 11.331(a)(3)(i) and (b)(1); and 46 CFR 11.333(a)(3)(i) and (b)(1).
 
Effective January 1st, 2023: the courses taking place in 2023 will satisfy:
 
  • The Engine Room Resource Management training requirements of 46 CFR 11.325(a)(3)(i) and (b)(1); 46 CFR 11.327(a)(3)(i) and (b)(1); 46 CFR 11.329(a)(4)(iv); 46 CFR 11.331(a)(3)(i) and (b)(1); and 46 CFR 11.333(a)(3)(i) and (b)(1); AND
  • The Leadership and Teamworking Skills standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.329(c); AND
  • Specific Tasks from NVIC 17-14 (CH-4), Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch, Tasks 1.1.F, 1.4, 3.1.A, 15.1.A, 16.1.A, 16.2.A, 16.3.A, and 16.4.A.

**This class is run for four days with the first three days 0800-1800 with an hour off for lunch.  Day four completes at approximately 1600 - 1700 after testing.  

Any applicant who has successfully completed your Engine Room Resource Management (MARINS-187) course will satisfy the Engine Room Resource Management training requirements of 46 CFR 11.325(a) (3)(i) and (b)(1); 46 CFR 11.327(a)(3)(i) and (b)(1); 46 CFR 11.329(a)(4)(iv); 46 CFR 11.331(a)(3)(i) and (b)(1); and 46 CFR 11.333(a)(3)(i) and (b)(1); AND the Engine Room Resource Management standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.329(a)(3); STCW Code Section A-III/1 and Table A-III/1, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 17-14(Ch-5) Tasks 1.1.F, 1.4; 3.1.A, and 15.1.A; AND the Leadership and Teamworking Skills standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.329(c); STCW Code Section A-III/1 and Table A-III/1, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 17-14(Ch-5) Tasks 16.1.A, 16.2.A, 16.3.A, and 16.4.A. Applicants who have successfully completed your course need not present completed “Task Control Sheets” for these assessments in application for STCW certification.
