HIGH VOLTAGE SAFETY
Maritime Institute's High Voltage Safety course is a one-week course comprised of classroom lectures, simulator-based training and assessments on our state of-the-art TRANSAS TechSim 5000 High-Voltage (HV) Circuit Breaker Simulator. Students will be exposed to the principles behind shock hazards, and arc flash/arc blast phenomena.
Practical exercises will help students understand how shock and arc flash boundaries are calculated, and most important, Incident Energy calculations to determine selection of required arc flash PPE. The assessment will incorporate all aspects of training including the proper use of PPE, live line tools, multimeters, other test equipment, and a implementation of a sample checklist for a Job Safety Analysis plan dealing with HV.
Working knowledge of electricity.
REQUIREMENTS:
Long sleeve shirts, Long pants, (NO Shorts), Steel toed shoes or boots for lab days and a flashlight. Class Requirements:
CLOSED-TOED WORK SHOES are REQUIRED for High Voltage Safety Course taken at Maritime Institute.
Any applicant who has successfully completed your High Voltage Safety (MARINS-219) course will satisfy: The High-Voltage Power Systems training requirements of 46 CFR 11.335 (a)(4)(vi) for STCW endorsement as Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) on vessels powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 kW / 1,000 HP propulsion power or more (Operational Level); AND The High-Voltage Power Systems training requirements of 46 CFR 12.611(a)(4)(ii) for STCW endorsement as an Electro-Technical Rating (ETR); AND The High-Voltage Power Systems standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.335(a)(2); STCW Code Section A-III/6 and Table A-III/6, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 23-14(Ch-3) Tasks 1.1.A, 8.1.A, and 17.1.D; AND The High-Voltage Power Systems standards of competence required by 46 CFR 12.611(a)(2); STCW Code Section A-III/7 and Table A-III/7, as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 24-14(Ch-4) Tasks 1.1.A, 2.1.A and 8.2.A. Applicants who have successfully completed your course need not present completed “Task Control Sheets” for these assessments in application for STCW certification.
